Leather and Stripes

Even though we are smack dab in the middle of summer, it's been pretty cool recently.  Of course, my stubborn determination to not accept this fact and still dress like it's 35 degrees out even though it's actually 17 degrees and raining has landed me with a cold. In the summer.  So moral of the story: check the forecast, people, or risk falling ill at the absolute worst time to get sick (drinking soup instead while everyone else is having icecream in the summer is not fun).

Moving on, I absolutely love my faux leather leggings.  They're probably the best I-look-put-together-but-really-I-just-ran-out-of-ideas piece of clothing I own.  Switch out your regular leggings for these and trust me, you'll look so fashionable even though you actually just rolled out of bed and forgot to brush your hair.

Top and Leggings - Forever XXI
Shoes - Payless shoes (Can you believe it?!?!)
Lips - Ruby Woo by MAC

What am I even doing here? Let's just call this my "overworked but sexy smoulder" ...hahaha.

Anyways, I hope you have a lovely rest of the week.  Wednesday is over which means we can officially start to look forward to the weekend!

Awkward self photo shoot... part 2: I seriously want a boat

Words cannot describe how happy I am that Alice wrote a post on awkward self photoshoots yesterday because I really wasn't sure how to describe the **grueling** process I went through to get these 7 half decent... if that, photos.

Let me paint you little a picture:

It's 40+ degrees outside. You get home from work and it's insanely sunny out. You decide, hey, I like my outfit today, I should take some pictures. You ask your brother to help you take some photos (because asking my parents is actually something I do not have enough dignity for), he's busy. So you grab the tripod... and so it begins.

Why was I wearing sleeves in this weather? Good question. Who/what was I looking at? Also a good question. Why am I not facing the camera? Who. Knows.
Anyways, onto the clothes. Other than working this summer, I'm also interning for a wedding planner. Last weekend was the first wedding I helped out at, and it was held at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club. If you go a back a couple of posts, you'll see one of Alice in what we considered 'yacht wear'. I joke about one day owning a boat all the time, but until I was in a place where literally everyone owned a boat, I didn't realize how cool it would be

The outside of the main building where the reception was held.
At the end of this was the dock where the ferry picked you up. Needless to say, I really enjoyed walking up and down this runway...
The Toronto skyline from the island– can you imagine getting married in front of that?!
So this week, while still going through yacht-club-withdrawal, I decided to go nautical with my outfit. I left my breton striped shirt in Montreal, so I made do with some red stripes instead. I finished it off with a pair of anchor earrings and one of my favorite pairs of high waisted 'sailor shorts' that actually have anchors on the buttons!

On the one hand, I wanted to get my anchor earrings in the photo. On the other hand, putting your face that close to a camera is really, really uncomfortable.

There was no one there...

Even my external battery was nautical!
Shirt: Urban Outfitters
Shorts: Talula from Aritizia
Shoes: Aldo
Earrings: Aldo Accessories
Sunglasses: Forever 21
External Battery: J Crew

See you on the water! But like, not actually... unless you want to invite me onto your boat ;)

I tried.. okay?

Despite being infamously adept at taking selfies, it's actually quite the struggle to get a good self-shot when all you have is a tripod and your dignity (have you ever tried "smeyezing" to a camera in your bedroom? Trust me, it's hard. I had to close my curtains).

So, if you're reading this, know that you're reading my literal sweat and tears, so here we go:

Tank top - Winners
Chiffon top - H&M
Shorts - Talula from Aritzia
Bracelet - gift from my mother

You'll probably notice that my photos are all different sizes.  Let's just say that after today I will never take cropping for granted again.

Phew.  Glad that's over.  I'll see y'all later :)

Red

In keeping with a more conservative dress code at my summer job, I've been pretty much living in modest hemlines and loose tops.  I switched out my black work pumps with these adorable red peeped-toes that I've worn once. At my boyfriend's prom. Two and a half years ago.  If you're one of those people who justify expensive purchases by calculating the cost per wear (like myself) you'd think I'm a complete idiot for spending close to a hundred dollars on them.  The saleslady even said to me, "Oh don't worry dear, you'll be wearing them all the time! With jeans, black dresses, ....".  I'd like to think she was trying to be helpful and not completely in it to earn a commission from a gullible 16 year old, so expect to see these shoes quite a lot this summer.

Skirt, top, and necklace - H&M
Shoes - A local boutique that has since closed (the petty, immature side of me is secretly pleased about this)

This is a lovely little nature area/park in my neighbourhood, I love coming here to feed the ducks (even though we're not supposed to. They have signs.) in the warmer months.

On another note, this t-shirt is actually a size 10 $5.95 basic tee from H&M I got years ago. I didn't want a tight one so I thought, hey, why not just buy it extra big? I still find myself throwing this easy t-shirt whenever I'm feeling lazy or uninspired.  It goes with everything!

Till next time!

Lazy Dresses and Patio Dinners

On Monday, we had one of the most insane thunderstorms– there were floods, all the power went out. It took me two and a half hours to get home from work that day. Thank god we didn't get hit by the storm again, and by Thursday, the weather had cleared up to blue skies at 30 degrees.

Having woken up late for work, I threw on one of Alice and I's favorite easy dresses that she had left at my house and added a pair of wedges to make it a little more office-appropriate.

Dress: I actually don't remember...
Shoes: Aldo
Necklace: Tiffany & Co.
Sunglasses: Maui Jims

I had taken Friday off work, so since Thursday was technically the end of my week, I decided to go to Scarborough Bluffs after work. The beach really is one of my favorite places ever– any beach, just give me some sun and sand.

That night, I had dinner with Alice on the Pickle Barrel patio before she left to go camping for the weekend.

They really spruced the place up

A killer shake for the DD (me) and a glass of house wine for Alice

Pasta with salmon and lobster grilled cheese
