Thrifting and Some Outfits!

Hi all,

Long time no see! Again! Ada and I are currently having the busiest semester of our lives, so it's been super hard to take good photos, edit, write entries, etc.  In fact, last week, we were so busy we completely ran out of food!  Nevertheless, we apologize for the absence and promise to upload more often. Promise.

So this weekend I went thrifting!  Here's my little haul:

From the left:
Black sweater sleeveless turtleneck - I have been looking for a sleeveless turtleneck top for quite some time now.  It's not really "in" at the moment, so not a lot of stores carry it. So imagine my delight when I flipped to this little gem, and it happened to fit really well too!

Hunter green v-neck sweater - nothing too special about this one.  It's super soft and fits nicely, and the colour is great for fall.

Oversized men's denim jacket - need I say more?

Black meshy tank top - I'll show this in an outfit post soon, it's a really cool texture and a steal at $3!

I have never truly gone thrifting before this weekend.  I have taken a peek inside the salvation army near my home once or twice, but have always been hesitant to really buy anything.  However, this time I went with a good friend who loves thrifting and he showed me his ways!  I love how some of these things are actually vintage, as opposed to the pseudo-hipster, overpriced "vintage" clothes they sell at places like Urban Outfitters (I hate to say it, but sometimes I get dragged in too).  It also makes me feel like I'm contributing to the social well-being of the planet, you know, by moving away from mass consumerism and reusing and keeping things out of landfills and all that.

Anyways, here are a couple of outfits I've worn recently:
Top - American Apparel
Scarf - Aldo
Jeans - American Eagle
Shoes - Urban Outfitters

I love fall, because fall means sweaters and scarves and tea and halloween and crisp weather.  This year, Montreal's autumn has been treating us particularly well with minimal rain and beautiful, mild days.
I recently picked up these white canvas tennis shoes.  So 80s-90s!  You can pair them with pretty much anything from jeans to leggings to skirts.
Top - Beyonce's Summer 2013 Tour (We. Love. Beyonce. Period.)
Hat - Blue Jays
Watch - Marc Jacobs

Faux leather crop top - Forever XXI
High waisted shorts - Aritzia
Wore this outfit out one night to the club. Super comfortable since you're not in a skirt!

That's about it for now.  Over the next month I'll be posting some DIY halloween costumes and (hopefully!) some better quality photos once I fix my camera adapter issue.

Have an amazing week and Happy Thanksgiving to all of our lovely Canadians!

An Update and some OOTDs

We haven't been too active recently because school just started and the past couple of weeks have been super hectic!  We don't even have internet in the apartment yet (which, in this day and age, is often more important than food).  I've been taking OOTDs recently on Instagram just because it is so low maintenance and easy.  Although finding a good mirror these days is kind of difficult (and we all know how important a good, well-lit mirror is for selfies), I managed a few okay-ish photos for y'all.  Beware, my judgment of the quality of these photos may be due to the fact that I only ever see them on my phone.

I got these new sneakers and was so excited to wear them!  I haven't worn sneakers for years. My attempt at looking a little more badass. Stop judging me.

 Leather pants!!! (Forever 21)
Shoes are Nike.

wore this outfit (minus the heels) out to the last dinner of the summer with my friends.  Top and skirt both from H&M.

MY HAT! This hat was probably the most exciting purchase I've made in recent memory.  Aside from being absolutely perfect, it was only $7!  No regrets on that one.  I believe the above photo really depicts my excitement about it, I mean, look at that face.  (please note: The next few pictures heavily feature the hat so if you have adverse feelings about the hat, it would be wise to stop scrolling now)

One of the first few days of school!

The weather got really really cold :(

My room! And Ada lounging (probably playing word warp) in my bed.

That's about it for now.  We'll try our best to update more from now on!  Cheers my lovely friends and I hope you have a great weekend (it's only Thursday, but Thursday means that Friday is tomorrow and that we ought to celebrate accordingly).

Summer Splurge: The Balfour Jacket

When this summer started, I had a lot of plans. I was going to get a slightly higher than minimum wage paying job and work full time for the full 3 months that I was back home and save up and get myself the Louis Vuitton Speedy purse (!!!!!!)

When these plans didn't exactly work out (aka I did not make nearly enough to warrant buying an $800 purse– plus tax), I decided to focus on something a little (read: a lot) more feasible.

Ever since this jacket (without the leather sleeves) had started coming out, I think by Zara, I'd wanted it. Then it started to come out everywhere. But then I saw it with leather. sleeves. at Aritzia, and being me, the more leather the better, right?!

Jacket: Talula from Artizia
Top: Jacob
Leggings: TNA from Aritzia
Purse: H&M
Sunglasses: Maui Jim
Shoes: Aldo

Thanks to Sean for taking these photos!

Take me out to the ball game

Wait. What's that? It's the first lifestyle post on Apartment 35!

........
Sorry for that embarrassing introduction. And the generic post title. Just sorry in general.

Anyways, last saturday, a two of my friends and I went down to the Rogers Centre to go see a baseball game! And despite what ALL of our other friends said, we had A LOT of fun.

Gorgeous day to be watching a game
We actually did a lot of missioning to get to the game. Turns out, there was a subway closure that left us NOWHERE NEAR where we needed to get to, and the shuttle busses that were supposed to take us there were stuck in traffic to the point where we were literally stationary for 20 minutes. So we decided to just man up and walk it, and that's when we came across this holy, sacred place:

THE MAGNUM POP-UP STORE. I wanted to stop SO BAD but we were already late for the game and still a half hour walk away, and when we got back here after the game, the line had extended down and around the block :(

It was the Toronto Blue Jays vs. the Oakland Athletics, and a home game for us.

A sea of blue for the home team ;)

I am not about that $10 beer life. Can't wait to get back to Montreal patio happy hour!

I'd like to dedicate a moment to MY NEW HAT. A month or 2 ago, I was at the mall with my friend Erika– she's actually featured in this blog as the mysterious stranger that also posed with the purple pole at OCAD ;)– and we decided that we were ready. That it was time. It was time. For us to rock baseball caps. Unfortunately though, she left to go on vacation last week and isn't going to be back before I leave to go back to Montreal, so I just took the plunge and I have NO REGRETS. Don't I look cool (just say yes ok)!!!!!

In case you didn't see it in the last picture, BLUE JAYS WIN!

Shout out to Jacob Wong for the awesome seats!

Sorry for the lack of posts recently, both Alice and I got super busy with work (I had a 6 day work week and 3 of those days included me selling furniture at a trade show that might as well have had a ban against chairs being present because I didn't get to sit once, let alone have a break).

I promise we'll pull ourselves together soon ;) Thanks for reading!

P.S. How much do you LOVE what Alice did with our blog design? :)

Silk, Bows... and a Moose

Right when I got home from Montreal, I went shopping and came across this skirt at Aritzia. And in that moment I knew (we were infinite, sidenote: I never read the book and the movie left me so confused) I had to have it. The ruffles, the silk, the BOW. But it was $50 and I was still going through my desperate-unemployed-poor-university-student-job-interviewing phase.

Fast forward a week and I get an email from Aritzia telling me that I– for some reason– am eligible for their private sale. Naturally, I flipped out for a minute and then proceeded to go online shop, probably for hours. But the skirt was still only marked down to $40, and I STILL didn't have a job yet.

Fast forward again to Saturday. I thought the sale at Aritzia had ended, but, jokes on me, it didn't end– it grew. Literally, in the same time that it took me to go through all the sale items and try things on, my friend went through the ENTIRE mall, and this was a huge. mall. with 6. neighborhoods (they're actually called neighborhoods). And then I found the skirt. On sale. For way less than $10 off the original price. And I cried. Not actually but also actually kind of...

Do my pink lips look cute with my blue skirt? ;)

By this point, I've think I've shown you every part of my backyard. I'm kind of concerned. I'm really not ready to do a self photoshoot in public D:

White Lace and Denim

Happy Civic Holiday to all of our lovely Canadian friends!  I hope your weekend was filled with lots of barbecues and sun and watermelon and beer.

These supposedly impractical white lace shorts are actually very easy to wear (I've worn this outfit at least 3 times this summer).  I'm very happy about this fact because it's pretty much the only time my mother has been wrong about my life choices.  They look great with denim, basic t-shirts, and flowy tops that just let the lace show through the bottom.

 Jacket - H&M
Lace Shorts - Bluenotes
Shoes - Payless

Also starring in this post is my neighbour's amazing garden.  There is not a single day that passes where she's not outside weeding/watering/fertilizing/singing to her flowers. I'm kidding about the singing part, but seriously, this woman deserves an award.

Sandals - Aldo

A shout out to my amazing sister for being so very patient and taking these photos for me despite my constant protests that my thighs/face/fingers (yes fingers) looked fat.

Have a great week and see you guys soon!

"I shop for comfort"

I really enjoy being comfortable. I know, I know, who doesn't, right? Yeah I don't think you understand. When it comes to comfort and lazy outfits, I REIGN SUPREME. My motto used to be– ok no, I'm getting ahead of myself, it pretty much still is– I shop for comfort. Now before you judge me, just know that in the last year, I've officially retired sweatpants from my list of 'I can go into public wearing this' clothes, and that's some serious progress when you consider my track record during high school (it all began with sweatpants Fridays.... and then it got out of hand.....). Frankly, I'm pretty sure this transformation (this is serious bizniz) came from living in the city where everyone just looks SO GOOD ALL THE TIME.

ALAS, I've had to look for other ways to be comfy, and I think I really found a winner. I have been fiending maxi skirts/dresses– as long as there is drapey fabric flowing around my ankles, I'm happy. They look good (especially when they sit at your waist), they provide coverage while still providing you with the option of not wearing pants (very important for the office, especially when the AC is on full blast), plus they're fun to twirl in ;) This particular one is a chiffon maxi skirt from Forever 21, with slits that are clearly there to make the skirt sexier, but I really just like it for the mobility (the only downside to maxi skirts is that they can really get in the way sometimes).

If you're like me and not particularly blessed with long legs, finding maxi skirts and dresses that don't drag on the ground when you walk can be really tough. If you want to avoid hemming your skirt, throwing on a pair of wedges or rolling down the waist once or twice always does the trick. Now we just wait until science catches up and short people can get their knees done (White Chicks is one of my favorite movies ;)

Top: Forever 21 ($1.80 tank tops make my life)
Skirt: Forever 21
Necklace: Forever 21 (this is getting awkward... do I just combine all 3 into 1 line... I feel like I should)
Shoes: Aldo
Sunglasses: Maui Jim

Have an awesome long weekend!!
